If the thought of a dental appointment makes your stomach tighten, you are in ordinary company — and you do not need to explain yourself to us.
Somewhere between one in three and one in five adults report meaningful anxiety about dental care. A smaller group avoids it altogether for years. Almost none of them are being unreasonable. Most anxiety traces back to something specific: a painful experience as a child, a dentist who did not stop when asked, a lecture about neglected teeth, or simply the helplessness of lying back while someone works on your face.
None of that is a character flaw, and none of it is something we need you to get over before you come in. It is information we can work with.

The most common fear we hear is not of pain. It is of being judged, or of being talked into something. So the first visit is deliberately low-stakes.

Vague reassurance is useless. Specifics let us change what we do. The needle, the drill sound, gagging, numbness, not being able to speak, the smell — each of these has a workaround, and we use them daily.
We are not going to lecture you about the gap. Patients who have avoided the dentist for a decade are among the most common people we see, and the visit that ends the avoidance is the one that matters. Call 770-995-0538 and say you are nervous — it changes how we schedule you.
