How it works

We scan the prepared tooth digitally instead of taking a putty impression. The crown is designed on screen while you sit in the chair, then milled from a solid ceramic block in our office and bonded the same day. Most cases take about two hours from start to finish.

When it is the right choice

Same-day ceramic works well for cracked teeth, large failing fillings, teeth that have had root canal therapy, and single crowns where a lab-made restoration would otherwise mean two visits. Some cases — front teeth needing layered shading, or multi-unit cosmetic work — are still better sent to our lab, and we will tell you when that applies.

What you avoid

No impression material, no temporary crown to baby for two weeks, no second round of anesthetic, and no risk of the temporary coming off while you wait.

The technology

Your crown is milled while you wait

A digital scan of your tooth becomes a three-dimensional design on screen. That design goes to the milling unit in our office, where two diamond burs cut your crown out of a solid block of ceramic.

It takes about fifteen minutes. There is no shipping, no dental laboratory, and no waiting two weeks for someone else to interpret an impression.

Why it matters

One visit instead of three

The traditional way to make a crown involves two appointments, a temporary crown in between, and a second round of anesthetic. Same-day milling removes all three.

One appointment, start to finish

You arrive with a broken or failing tooth and leave with the final crown cemented in place. Scan, design, mill, fit, done — usually inside two hours.

No temporary crown

Temporaries are the weak link. They come loose, they are sensitive to cold, they limit what you can eat, and they occasionally fall out on a weekend. Skipping that stage skips the whole category of problem.

Numbed once, not twice

The second appointment in traditional crown work means a second injection and another hour with a numb face. Here the tooth is anesthetized once, at the start, and the work is finished before it wears off.

No second trip, no time off

No arranging a second half-day away from work, no second drive across town, no scheduling around a two-week laboratory turnaround.

A better fit

The digital scan captures the tooth more accurately than putty impressions, and there is no distortion from shipping a mold. The crown is designed against your actual bite and adjusted on the spot.

Solid ceramic, matched to your teeth

The blocks are milled from a single piece of ceramic, so there is no weak seam. We select the shade to match the teeth beside it, then glaze and polish it in the office.
