Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain Crowns

Dental crowns are in-house restorations made from tooth-colored ceramic. They resemble the shape of the natural teeth but are hollow on the inside. Crowns are placed on teeth that are chipped, cracked, misshapen, weak, or severely worn out, thereby covering them entirely and keeping them from enduring further damage.

What are the advantages of choosing dental crowns?

  • Crowns are fabricated from dental-grade ceramic, making them highly durable and resistant to damage. They are quite long-lasting and resistant to staining.
  • Crowns are versatile restorations, as they are used for several restorative and cosmetic dental procedures.
  • Crowns can be fabricated and bonded to the teeth with ease. They can be completed in as little as two visits to the dentist’s practice.
  • Bonding a crown to the damaged tooth restores its functionality, allowing you to bite and chew food as always.
  • When crowns are combined with dental bridges or implants, they can be used to replace missing teeth as well.
  • Crowns can be personalized to match the exact appearance of the adjoining teeth, thereby keeping it under disguise.

What is the procedure for getting dental crowns?

When you visit our dental practice for the initial consultation, our dentist will conduct a thorough diagnosis of the oral condition and understand the severity by asking you a few questions. Oral scans and x-rays may be required to get a better view of the teeth, which also helps us determine your candidacy for dental crowns. Once it is confirmed, we will go ahead with the treatment.

The teeth will be prepared for the crown by cleaning them thoroughly and removing a thin layer of enamel, which makes space for the ceramic prosthetic. We use a hand-held scanning device to scan the teeth, and the data obtained will be used to create a digital impression of the tooth. It will be used for the fabrication procedure in a dental laboratory. Meanwhile, we will place a temporary crown on the tooth to protect the prepared surface.

During the next appointment, we will remove the temporary restoration and clean the tooth. The surface of the prepared tooth will be roughened using an etching solution, after which we will place the crown on it and check for fit and comfort. Once the contour of the crown is confirmed, we will bond it to the tooth using dental adhesives, inspect for a perfect bite, and polish it to enhance the aesthetics.
